Step 1: What have I got in my hands?

If you’ve opened the box to your new Ray-Ban Meta glasses, you’ll have found:

Ray-Ban AI glasses inside a charging case
Quick start guide
Safety and warranty guide
Instructions for ordering prescription lenses
Cleaning cloth

Note: If you don’t have one already, you’ll need a USB-C cable to charge the glasses. A cable is not included in the box.

Let’s take a look at the glasses themselves

Power switch

Inside the left temple arm is a switch that you can slide forward to turn the glasses on and back to turn them off.

Capture button

On top of the right temple of the glasses is a button designed to capture photos and videos. Press the button to take a photo, hold the button to start recording a video and press again to stop recording.

Touch pad

Along the side of the right temple and arm of the glasses is a touch pad. You can swipe forward or back for volume, tap to play or pause and hold to launch music apps.

Cameras

There are two cameras on the glasses with one on each side of the frame. A light will display when you are recording or taking a photo.

Charging case

The charging case is used for charging and storing your glasses. It has a connector in the bridge of the glasses where it will connect to and charge them. On the front is a coloured LED light which shows the charging level. As the case holds its own charge, you will need to charge the case via the USB C port at the bottom of the case. On the rear of the case is a button to be used for factory resetting the device.

Step 2: Setting up your glasses

Now we’re ready to get your glasses set up so you can start using them. Start by following these steps:

Remove the glasses from the case.
Power them on: Slide the power switch on the left frame arm towards the front.
Place the glasses back into the case: Ensure the nose bridge is properly seated on the charging port.
Check for pairing mode: If the LED on the case doesn’t automatically flash blue, press and hold the pairing button on the back of the case for at least 5 seconds.
Download the Meta AI mobile app: Available from the App Store or Google Play.
Log in or create a Meta account: This is required to complete setup.
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone.
Pair the glasses: Open the Meta AI app and wait for it to detect the glasses. A pairing request may appear on your phone - confirm it.
Follow the in-app instructions: The Meta AI app will guide you through the rest of the setup.
For more detailed descriptions from Meta AI’s responses, you’ll want to turn on the Detailed responses mode. This can be accessed by heading to Device settings, then accessibility in the Meta AI app.

Step 3: Important commands to get you started

The best way to interact with your new Ray-Ban Meta glasses is with your voice. Your glasses have Meta AI built in, so can understand and respond to your commands. Activating the AI is as simple as saying “Hey Meta.”

To get you started we’ve got a series of essential commands below.

Basic commands

To get the glasses to read visible text aloud say: "Hey Meta, read this text"
To receive details about the environment around you using AI say: "Hey Meta, describe my surroundings"
"Hey Meta, what's in front of me?" - Identifies objects, people, or scenes using built-in AI.
To get a summary of key messages in a document without reading all the text say: "Hey Meta, look, and give me a summary of the document I'm holding."
Use your glasses to connect with the Be My Eyes® network to get assistance from a sighted volunteer.
For deeper customisation, ask your glasses to read text verbatim, such as on a sign for example, and Meta AI will say what's in front of you.

Tip: If you do not receive enough details, phrase your prompts differently during follow-up question sequences.

Hands-free communication

Send text or voice messages, make phone calls and take video calls hands free.

Send a dictated message via WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, or SMS by saying: "Hey Meta, message contact name."
Send a picture by saying: "Hey Meta, send a picture to contact name via Messenger or WhatsApp or my phone."

Navigation hands free

To have Meta read directions via your phone's navigation app say: "Hey Meta, navigate to location."
Get Meta to list nearby restaurants or cafes by saying: "Hey Meta, what restaurants or cafes are nearby?"
Meta can read items on a menu, sign or board in front of you by saying something like: "Hey Meta, look and summarise, and describe in detail the items on this menu."
Or: "Hey Meta, look and give me a detailed summary of the main courses on this menu with pricing for each item."

Capture

Take ultra high-quality photos and videos while keeping your hands free by using the capture button or by saying:

"Hey Meta, take a photo"
"Hey Meta, start recording"

Listen

Listen to music and more, that only you can hear, with open-ear speakers that deliver rich audio without blocking out conversations or the ambient noises around you.

Use commands like:

"Hey Meta, play Spotify/Amazon Music/Apple Music"
"Hey Meta, pause"
"Hey Meta, skip"
"Hey Meta, volume up", "Hey Meta, volume down"
"Hey Meta, play… (name any song, album, artist, playlist or station)"
