Starting school is a major milestone for every child and family. For parents and carers of children who are blind or have low vision, the transition can bring additional questions, concerns and uncertainty. We're here to help.
Join Vision Australia's Starting School Strong online information series, designed to support parents and carers as they prepare their child for a confident and successful start to school.
Presented by members of the Vision Australia Children and Young People team, along with exciting guest speakers, these sessions will provide practical information, guidance and opportunities to connect with others on a similar journey.
These programs have been generously funded by The Bill & Jean Henson Trust, The Elliott Family Trust and The Noel Ernest Maddison Charitable Trust – so participation is free for families.
Who can attend?
This program is for parents and carers of Vision Australia clients aged 4 to 6, or children who will be transitioning to school in 2027 or 2028, living nationwide.
Important information
This series consists of four 1.5 hour long online sessions over four consecutive weeks:
- Thursday, October 15: Frameworks, checklists and skills development for all learners.
- Thursday, October 22: Helping your child adjust to their new school setting.
- Thursday, October 29: Leveraging classroom supports, Statewide Vision Impairment Services (SVIS), and home-school collaboration.
- Thursday, November 5: Self-care support for school transition.
While the sessions will be hosted by our team in Queensland, families from around the country are encouraged to attend as most of the information will be relevant nationwide.
However, this series will be offered again in early 2027, with information specific for families in Victoria and NSW. The dates of those events are still being finalised, and we will share more information as soon as we can.
Finally, while participation is free, bookings are essential – so secure your place today!
