Event Description

Vision Australia Library are thrilled to announce our upcoming In Conversation will feature award winning playwright and author, Jane Harrison.

Jane is descended from the Muruwari people of NSW, her books and plays deal with Indigenous history, belonging and identity.

Jane’s debut play, Stolen, played across Australia and internationally for seven years, and still resonates twenty-five years after its premiere. Both Stolen, and Rainbow’s End, are widely studied across the Australian Year 12 curriculum, recognising the rich literary merit of Jane’s works.

About Rainbow’s End

Our conversation will concentrate on Rainbow’s End, Jane’s second play. Rainbow’s End focusses on three generations of Yorta Yorta women living in a humpy near Echuca in the 1950s. A dramatization of the struggle for decent housing, meaningful education, jobs and community acceptance.

Rainbow’s End has been featured on the HSC English curriculum since 2019, and this year is being studied by Year 12 students across NSW, Victoria and Queensland. It is a text that educates readers on an essential chapter of Australian history, while challenging them to consider the relevance of these themes in today’s Australia.
