Vision Australia Library has the privilege of welcoming back award-winning poet, author, singer and advocate for the blind, Dave Steele.
Dave is hosting a five-week poetry workshop, demonstrating how poetry is a powerful tool for self-expression. Dave will work with our library members, to show how your emotions and personal experiences connected to blindness, low vision and disability, can be turned into potent poetry.
Dave’s workshop will explore themes of sight loss, resilience and creativity. In addition to showing how you can use poetry as a tool to express feelings, process experiences and build confidence.
About Dave Steele
Dave was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a genetic eye condition, in 2014. The profound impact of RP unfolded alongside the challenges of unemployment and financial strain for Dave, his wife, and their four children.
As a therapeutic outlet for himself, Dave turned to writing poetry. His heartfelt poetry has become a voice for all affected by blindness and low vision. Dave’s poetry is a testament to the transformative power of art and advocacy.
Dave is the author of the Stand By Me RP, a collection of three poetry anthologies which became number one bestsellers in both the U.S. and Australia.
