Vision Australia celebrated International White Cane Day on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, with its inaugural White Cane Day walk. More than 90 attendees from local and regional communities took part, championing the independence, confidence and mobility of people who are blind or have low vision.

The walk became a unique showcase for mobility innovation. The creators of the revolutionary WeWALK 2 smart cane attended, travelling from Türkiye to give live demonstrations. As participants moved from Southern Cross Station to Flinders Street Station via Queens Bridge, the WeWALK team demonstrated exactly how their accessible technology enhances user mobility.

Once the walk was complete, participants caught a train to Vision Australia’s Kooyong office for a celebratory lunch. At the Kooyong site, attendees had the valuable opportunity to meet the WeWALK team at the Vision Store. This allowed them to learn more about the smart cane and explore the wide range of assistive technology and daily living aids available at the store.

This successful event highlights the power of global collaboration in bringing world-class assistive technology directly to the blind and low vision community. To learn more and shop the WeWALK 2 smart cane and other assistive technology, visit the Vision Store website.
