The Month that was .....
Here is a snapshot and mind you, only a snapshot of the generous contribution of our dedicated Wollongong volunteers - we need only go back one month.
We begin with Book Club. With Maggie at the helm participants discuss books, exchange ideas and most of all enjoy a healthy dose of conversation and laughter. It's been said "it's the most enjoyable Friday of the month".
In week 2 participants enjoyed a beautiful walk on the foreshores of Lake Illawarra. Our walking group led by volunteer Maura and sighted guide volunteers Guoda, Barbara and Caz, provide clients the welcomed opportunity to meet and socialise in a safe, friendly group; enjoy some exercise and very importantly, a coffee to finish.
In the meantime, our staff and clients are being supported by a team of admin volunteers second to none! The energy, expertise and dedication they show makes a world of difference to the smooth running of our centre - Dianne, Anne, Nerida, Debbie, Julia, Lyndell, Anita and Helen - our dream team.
Meanwhile, in our training room volunteer Cindy is, as always, assisting clients to learn and develop keyboard skills. We've lost count of how many clients Cindy has assisted over the last 5 years!
And it's not all 9 to 5. Over the Easter weekend our brand new audio describers Clare and Sally gave a wonderful performance of their own in their debut as audio describers during the play "Midsummer" at the IPAC theatre, while volunteer Sue described "Anything Goes" at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre.
We are so fortunate to have our faithful Talking Newspaper volunteers on the South Coast and in the Southern Highlands who consistently and expertly produce the local newspaper in audio, allowing clients to keep up to date with their local community news week after week.
We haven't even touched on our fund raising volunteers - donation collection volunteers and Myer Gift Wrappers, our recreation volunteers and DAISY coaches, our drivers and volunteer speakers.
So many supporters, so much help and very much appreciated, thank you!
