Dog Foster Carer

Kensington, VIC or various suburbs surrounding Melbourne, VIC. Multiple volunteers required for 3 forms of Foster Dog Carers. Applications close on Friday, 29 December 2017 at 5pm

Duties

Short Term Carers

  • Caring for a puppy or an adult dog for between one to four weeks
  • Required to collect and return the dog to/from Seeing Eye Dogs headquarters in Kensington, or live within the Melbourne metro area
Long Term Foster Carers
  • Caring for a puppy or an adult dog for a month or more
Training Dog Foster Carers
  • Caring for an adult dog for between four to six months
  • Training dog foster carers must be able to bring the dog to ‘school’ at the Seeing Eye Dogs headquarters in Kensington daily, Monday to Friday. School starts around 8am and finishes at 3pm

Skills and Attributes

  • No prior dog skills are required, you will be provided with training and all dog food and equipment
  • Carers must be able to adhere strictly to the individual guidelines for each dog in regards to what they are and are not allowed to do, which depends on their stage and progress in training
  • Ideal carers are those that work from home or are able to take the dog out and about with them, as our dogs must not be left unsupervised for more than 3-5 hours (depending on age and stage of training)

Other requirements

All volunteers are required to undergo a police check prior to commencement.
