There’s a government bent to this week’s Talking Vision, with the episode featuring discussion about Australia’s new $50 note.

Entering into circulation this week, the new $50 note is the third Australian note to include a tactile feature to help people who are blind or have low vision to identify it.

In partnership with the Reserve Bank of Australia, Vision Australia held a special sneak peek of the note a fortnight ago, during which Talking Vision guest host Stephen Jolley spoke with Federal Treasurer and Kooyong MP Josh Frydenberg and Assistant Governor for the Reserve Bank of Australia Lindsay Boulton.

“Around 10 years ago thought it was import for the Reserve Bank of Australia to improve the security features of our banknotes remain secure against the potential for counterfeiting and when we did that would also be a good opportunity to review the accessibility features.” Mr Boulton said.

“Even though we only started releasing in the new notes a couple of years ago with the $5 note in 2016, we have been working on the project itself for 10 years prior to that,” he said.

Julie Scott from the Vision Store  also chats about Vision Australia’s calendars and diaries.
