Ready for Christmas - Virtual Event

One of our favourite parts of Christmas is bringing children who are blind or have low vision and their families together at the Sidney Myer Bowl in Victoria for the Rehearsal of Vision Australia’s much-loved ‘Carols By Candlelight’.

Unfortunately, the events of 2020 mean that, this year, we can’t come together in person at the Bowl as we usually do, so we’re doing things a little differently…

To get into the festive spirit, and make sure we’re ready to sing-a-long to everyone’s favourite Christmas songs for the broadcast of ‘Carols By Candlelight’ (which will be going ahead as usual on Channel 9 on Christmas Eve)

We’re having a ‘Ready for Christmas’ virtual celebration!

Streamed live on Tuesday 22 December at 2pm AEDT (1pm AEST; 11am AWST).

What's involved?

  • A special Christmas Feelix storytime for under 5s
  • Festive stories for older children read by some of the amazing graduates of Vision Australia's LEAP programme, and
  • With thanks to Channel 9, an exclusive re-screening of the best bits for kids from the last couple of years of Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight. We might also feature some of your Christmas makes and recordings!

The virtual celebration will be streamed live. Sign-up is essential to receive the link needed to access the event.

Sign up is essential if you would like to be sent the Feelix kit. We will do our best to get all kits out in time, but please note that postal times are under extreme pressure this year.

Christmas Songs and Carols

Whilst the list of Carols for this year’s Carols by Candlelight is yet to be revealed, we’ve pulled together some favourites for you get practicing with. Below are links to downloadable large print lyrics.

If you would like braille copies of lyrics and don’t have access to an embosser or electronic braille display, please send your name and postal address to with the subject line ‘Braille Carols’.

We’d love to hear your recordings and maybe even feature them in our ‘Ready for Christmas’ virtual celebration.

If you’re happy for yours to be considered, just record your family singing one of these carols on the recording app on your phone and send it in to

And thanks to our partnership with Melbourne Recital Centre, we’re proud to share exclusive recordings of these carols with you performed by some MRC’s top musicians.

Perfect to sing along to, or have on while you decorate the tree!

Our partnership with MRC includes the Sound Matters Program for Primary School aged children who are blind, or have low vision. An interactive workshop that explores different ways of making and listening to music; and Song Play, an online early music education program that promotes exploration of the world of music for children birth to 5 years who are blind or have low vision.

Parents and their children participate in fun and engaging musical activities in the comfort of their own home. Activities are designed to facilitate children’s early movement, communication, social interaction, early literacy and play skills.
