Paisley's whirlwind first year of school continues

It is October people! Can you believe it? Christmas is in twelve weeks. TWELVE WEEKS! Where has the time gone?

Here I was thinking that Paisley’s first year in her big school adventure was going to be a long, dragged out process, but it's been the opposite. In fact if you’d blinked, you would have missed it.

It's scary to think that in a few short months Paisley will be starting grade one. Grade one? I'm still trying to get my head around all the commotion surrounding prep, let alone grade one.

Paisley has learnt so much in such a small amount of time, and although I'd like to take the credit, it all c needs to be given to her teacher, Mrs Teys.

She is fantastic. I couldn't have hoped for a better teacher for Paisley. Paisley was a blank canvas when they first met. Shy, unwilling to learn, struggled to identify letters and numbers, and found it hard reading a word let alone a book.

Fast-forward a couple of months and Paisley is proudly standing on stage as she receives her 100 days of reading award at assembly.

This may seem like a small achievement to others but, it's an achievement none the less. Considering that at the beginning of the year I was told to postpone Paisley’s entrance into prep as her eye condition would affect her level of education in mainstream schooling.

Oh how thankful I am to have not listened to said advice and put on my stubborn Mum boots.

Paisley was rewarded, by being given the BEST first teacher anyone could ask for. Mrs Teys never gave up on her and didn't treat her any differently. The only sad thing is Paisley won't have her next year. Which is probably why she keeps telling me that she wants to go where ever Mrs Teys goes next year.

I guess resilience, persistence and a cracker of a teacher is all a kid needs to open up, and be the best person they can be.

PS. – Since my last blog Paisley participated in her first ever book week parade. She loved it and asked why her Rapunzel costume couldn't be her permanent school uniform. Kids really do they say the darndest things.
