Vision Australia is proud to announce the national launch of Vision Australia's Dickinson Literary Award.
These awards have a long and proud history dating back to 1921, and Vision Australia is honored to continue this prestigious tradition.

Today, this esteemed literary competition is open to all Australia writers who are blind or have low vision. There are seven categories, each of which has first prize of a Vision Australia Equipment Solutions voucher to the value of $500.
The Vision Australia Dickinson Literary Award aims to:
- promote the contributions of people who are blind and have low vision to the larger community
- highlight the creative excellence that exists in the blindness community, and
- to allow people who are blind or have low vision to tell their own stories in their own words.

Adult - 25 years and older
- Fiction (no more than 1000 words)
- Non-fiction (no more than 1000 words)
Young Adult - 16 to 24 years
- Fiction (no more than 1000 words)
- Non-fiction (no more than 1000 words)
Youth - those under 16 years
- Fiction (no more than 500 words)
- Non-fiction (no more than 500 words)
Open - All ages
- Best autobiographical piece on living with blindness and low vision (no more than 1000 words)
Entry criteria
To enter the Vision Australia Dickinson Literary Award, you must:
- be an Australian citizen
- be legally blind
Submitting your entry
Entries open on 1 October 2008 and close on 31 December 2008.
All entries must be accompanied by a filled out Application Form and necessary documentation if needed.
