Getting set for Braille's birthday

24 December 2008

We're counting down the days to 4 January, which marks 200 years since the birth of Louis Braille - the man who provided the key to literacy for people who are blind.

To make as many people aware of Braille's enormous contribution, Vision Australia is spreading the word about the great man through various media outlets.

On Saturday 20 December, for example, our CEO Gerard Menses told 2GB listeners about Braille's early life, how he was inspired by a French military code to invent a tactile literary system and the impact he has had on so many lives.

Stay tuned for more exciting news about our celebration of Braille's life in 2009.

Listen to Gerard's 2GB interview.

The interview also contains information about the exhibition Vision Australia is presenting in conjunction with the Powerhouse Museum. If you're in Sydney over summer, drop in to the Ultimo museum pay a visit to Living in a sensory world: stories from people who are blind or have low vision.
