Footy fever hits Burwood
27 April 2007
Andrew Raines and Joel Bowden answer life's big questions at the Vision Australia School.
Vision Australia School students arrived for school on Tuesday 24 April dressed in their footy jumpers, scarfs and beanies.
Footy fever was in the air as the Senior class began to paint faces in club colours while the Juniors organised a Footy Lunch for the day, including footy tucker: a hot dog with sauce!
After lunch the students warmly greeted two senior Richmond Football Club players. Andrew Raines spoke about his football career, his weekly training regime and other club commitments. Joel Bowden joined in as both players fielded questions from our students. The questions were mostly footy related, but we also found out that Andrew's favourite TV show is "The OC".
It was then down to the gym for a footy clinic. After the students ran around the track to warm up, they kicked and handpassed the footy and ran around the cones before re-joining the line. There was time at the end of the session to get autographs, and the students were very excited when they were all given a Richmond cap from the club! A great time was had by all.
Thank you to the Richmond Football Club.
Vision Australia School (Melbourne)
Our school caters for children between the ages of five and 18 years who are blind or have low vision. Some of the students also have additional disabilities.
We run a program where sighted students from a neighbouring school attend our classes for a one-year period. This encourages social interaction, contributing to the further development of each child. The School also offers a range of programs for students who are blind or have low vision attending mainstream schools in Victoria.
Our wide range of services is provided through regional and metropolitan locations in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and Victoria, mostly free-of-charge.
