Canberra's Morning of Celebration
29 May 2009

CEO Gerard Menses recognises the efforts of Cooma Talking Newspaper coordinators Peter and Annette Schaefer.
Sarah Ferguson, Frances Morgan and Rosie Cosentini are a few of the thousands of volunteers who help on a daily basis.

Gerard gratefully accepts two giant cheques from Public Trustee, Andrew Taylor.

Clients, Jackson Prout and his big brother Jesse celebrated by playing in the children’s room.
Vision Australia Canberra was delighted to host a morning tea and an awards ceremony as a small token of our appreciation for some of the thousands of volunteers who help us on a daily basis.
It was also an opportunity to present two Further Education Bursary Awards, and for Vision Australia's CEO Gerard Menses to be presented with two generously donated cheques.
About 30 people attended the event, and were able to share in a morning of recognition and fellowship that was a great success!
Imogen Wall and Merilyn Tolano, two of our dedicated Audio Describers were recognised for their outstanding efforts and contributions towards the Audio Description service.
We were also fortunate to be joined by Peter and Annette Schaefer from Cooma, who came to accept their hard earned award for their excellent coordination of the Talking News Service in Cooma.
Gerard was certainly kept busy after presenting two Further Education Bursaries and accepting two giant cheques.
One was for $4,000 from the Sally Sinisoff Trust Fund. The second was a cheque for $26,000 from the Eric Crawford Memorial Fund.
This money will also go to supporting our stepping towards school program for children ages 0 to six who are blind or have low vision.
We look forward to the next opportunity we have to recognise the exceptional worth of our volunteers!
A huge thanks to the Canberra team for being so accommodating and helpful.
Finally, a special thanks to all those who attended, those who volunteer who couldn't make it this time, and to all of you who help Vision Australia in our daily work.
