Legal Blindness

Legally blind is a term used in Australia to determine a person's low vision level, where there is no possibility of correcting vision through treatments such as surgery, laser or corrective glasses.

Only an ophthalmologist can determine legal blindness. The classification then forms part of the determination for eligibility for Centrelink pensions and benefits as well as other concessions and subsidies.

Remember, people with vision loss are still eligible to use Vision Australia services. You do not have to be legally blind.
