This workshop provides an introduction to web accessibility techniques within Australian policy contexts and internationally recognised requirements, including the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

This workshop will help you to:
- recognise the concept of accessible and interoperable design and the relationship to usability design
- increase awareness of the need to design for special needs such as adaptive technology, including screen readers for people with visual impairments, mouseless navigation, and alternative browsers
- learn about common major accessibility problems with websites;
- understand accessibility methodology such as (X)HTML, CSS and the Web Accessibility Guidelines
- confidently address specific accessibility issues and devise optimal solutions for links, forms, semantic mark up, scripting, images and graphics, Acrobat and PDFs, multimedia, text, and navigation
You will be provided with useful online and print web accessibility tips and resources so you can implement many solutions immediately after the workshop.

A basic knowledge of web design techniques, including HTML, is needed to get full value from the content of this workshop. However the workshop will be based on conceptual understanding rather than detailed code implementation.
