DAISY players have revolutionised the way our clients receive Library services.

Vision Australia's Information Library Service (VAILS) provides information and reading in accessible formats for people with a print disability across Australia.

We have a wide range of print alternative books, magazines and newspapers available to Library members in audio, Braille and for download.

How to use the Library

It's a quick 4 step process:

  1. Become a member
  2. Tell us what types of books you like or set up a password to choose yourself
  3. Receive the books in the mail or download online
  4. Return the books to receive more

Audio books

In 2005 Vision Australia began to produce materials in DAISY format. Since then we have purchased, exchanged and converted titles to expand our collection to over 16,000 titles available (as at August 2010). Titles are sent out and returned via Australia Post, using either re-usable containers or recyclable envelopes.

The Library also has 1000 titles available on audio compact disc.

Braille books

Whether you are an experienced Braille reader or just starting out, the Library has a collection of Braille to suit your reading needs.

For children, or parents of young children, our 500 plus print Braille titles (where the regular text of a picture book is overlayed with clear Braille dots) allow everyone to read the same story.

For accomplished Braille readers, there are 8000 titles and 1200 music pieces to choose from. These titles are also available from the i-access ® Online library.

i-access ® Online

Some of our great audio titles and a wide selection of magazines and newspapers are available for immediate download through our i-access ® online Library, an online service tat can be accessed via computers and portable devices.

With 35 new books each month, as well as local, state and national newspapers, this service allows Library members to instantly access titles.
