Overview
ALLiN, Vision Australia's Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy program, provides tuition and on-going support with a focus on relevant and meaningful practice to improve participants' quality of life.
Do you, or someone you know who is blind or has low vision, want to improve your reading, writing and numeracy skills?
Independent reading, writing, and numeracy skills are essential in our society and are a right for all those that can achieve them.
Based in Kensington, Vision Australia's Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy program is tailored to the needs of adults who are blind or have low vision and aims to provide participants with effective reading and writing tools, effective reading, writing, and numeracy skills, and to prepare students for employment and participation in mainstream learning programs.
Did you know?
- Reading and writing skill development is an on-going process over a lifetime as we face different challenges. ALLiN provides expert assistance to people at all stages of this process.
- People who are blind or have low vision are over-represented in the 15% of society who leave school without independent reading and writing skills. ALLiN picks up where foundation education has left off.
- Lack of effective reading and writing skills is a major barrier to independence, study, and employment for many people who are blind or have low vision. With its focus on the acquisition of real life skills, ALLiN can help participants in everything from applying for a job to brushing up on spelling.
- People who are blind or have low vision sometimes need alternative teaching methods to acquire effective independent reading, writing, and numeracy skills. ALLiN classes are taught by an instructor familiar with the needs of these students, and take place in a training room with a full range of adaptive technology.
